Yuusha no Kuzu Ep.17 - Finally Aki's backstory is out. Tailed!

Episode 17 of Yuusha no Kuzu finally delivers a good picture of what happened to Aki in the past, even though some details are deliberately left open. We know now, for sure, that she died when she was a kid and was "resurrected" through the E4 as the only real example of a human capable of not going berserk after receiving it.

Who resurrected her? Well, her father and Yashiro's teacher, Takamiya Kiyoto, apparently sided with Half Dragon to get the experiment ongoing and eventually managed to do it with the support of the now-deceased Lord Venus Veil. Then, for reasons unknown, he started to tell Aki fake stories about heroes.

Lord Storm Coffin still looks just as beautiful as we remember her. Hopefully they don't kill her off

Aki too doesn't shy giving that serious look when she sees another girl trying to get too cozy with Yashiro.

We don't know if she was completely dead or simply unconscious, but until the truth is revealed, we can say that Aki is, by all intents and purposes, a zombie. Can we start calling her that just for fun? It gives me those vibes from Steins;Gate where Rintarou called Kurisu "the Zombie."

The next target for the series seems to be finding Lord Storm Coffin and extracting information from her. She is apparently still alive and was a member of Half Dragon before turning on them. I'm not sure how easy it will be, though, considering she is supposedly just as strong as Yashiro.

I like how Yukine realized that Yashiro is a bad driver just by standing for a few seconds inside the car. She wasn't wrong either! View video page

I love how the three heroines continue to perform comedy skits where they get jealous of the others when they approach Yashiro. It is usually Seira on the receiving end, like with the scene that I attached as a video, but this week even Aki got a look from the others when she managed to lure Yashiro into playing cards with her.

It isn't clear in what way they see him, though: a romance target? A father figure? I know it's ultra-fun to see them bicker while trying to one-up each other. Watching the author intertwine comedy within the dark themes creates a nice gap that keeps the storytelling fresh.

Yukine's faces will never get hold. She's sort of the mascot of the series for me. I like Seira more as a character and heroine, but...

Takamiya Kiyoto is the individual that set up most of the events of this story, but what was he trying to do exactly? Aside from resurrecting his daughter?

Next episode is titled "Braves in Danger" and will show the battle between Yashiro, Aki, Yukine, and Seira against Tomoe and Seki. I'm not sure why they are pursuing Yashiro at this point, though. I understood when they were protecting the lab, but at this point, the data is out, so...
