Ochette Ch.2 Glacis Route - Hunters being hunted
Ochette is turning out to be a much more interesting character than I expected her to be. In this chapter we are chasing the final third creature of the legends called Glacis found in Stormhail where she is revered as some kind of divinity because of the protection she gave them from various meteorological phenomenons.
Issue is, once there we found that the situation is a lot more complicated now because the blizzards are ravaging and Glacis is angry. Turns out some hunters went their way to try and "hunt" Glacis and ended up mostly being killed. They did manage to destroy the egg of Glacis which sent her in a frenzy. One of those hunters is still alive and want to get revenge for the others.
Honestly wasn't expecting to ear Ochette's voice change so dramatically in this scene (the attached screenshot). She was livid and deeply angry at what happened and her voice changed a lot. Apparently she's voiced by Aya Hirano and honestly despite her being so popular back then, I totally didn't notice until her voice changed in this scene.
Either way, Ochette manages to calm her down and willing to help with her quest. Now the next target is going back to the home of Toto'haha and preparing for the calamity. But the report of a Black Hunter being the one that instigated the attack on Glacis makes me wonder about who is really going to be the final villain of her story...
Gameplay wise, the boss wasn't that hard to be honest. Just kept breaking the weakness and killing the adds when they popped up. It had a few scary AOE attacks like Silver Wind (that did like 1000-1200 damage to the entire party), but nothing that you can't overheal with items or the Cleric class. I was vastly underleveled compare to the suggested level (I'm lvl31 compared to the lvl37 suggestion).

Castti Ch.3 Abandoned Village - Malaya was...
Completed chapter 3 of Castti and I'm left a bit without words about the events that happened. Trousseau's motivations to betray everyone was "I talked to some dude back then and he told me the truth", but they never elaborate much further on why he spread that terrible disease killing innocents left and right. He says that's the way to free everyone from suffering, but that's like...just...absurd and incomprehensible.
To add on top, we get the reveal that everyone else in the Eir's Apothecaries are dead trying to get Castti to safety. Including Malaya that was not someone who was angry with Castti, but purely her own imagination trying to remind her about the memories she lost. Now Castti is on her own and she needs to finish what she started.
Now next chapter is the grand finale with the battle against Trousseau to stop him from destroying a huge city while the coronation of the new king is ongoing. While I'm sure that Castti will succeed I'm wondering exactly WHO put these things in the mind of Trousseau. I'm starting to think again that there must be a central figure that is causing havoc around the country in all the various routes and they're all somehow connected, but so far can't still figure out the pieces.

Throne Chapter 3 - Father Route
Wait, he was not her father after all? I was already predicting a cheesy scene like that in star wars with "Father" going "Throne, I'm your real father" with a "NO!" shout from Throne. There was even the leading up sad backstory showing Throne mother Marietta and Sebastian (Father's real name) being together and going to a church to be together lovingly. She even revealed she was pregnant and Sebastian going "let's marry" and I was like "oh this is very cheesy!".
Then Father deliver the bombshell that Marietta then left him, killed the kid she was carrying, married the leader of the Blacksnakes and had a daughter which was Throne. And that kind of shocked me as it really come as a curve ball, but it had reasoning because there was another chapter after this one and if Father dies we would have no final mastermind to fight against.
Turns out the real leader of the Blacksnakes is still alive and is Throne real father. Plus the keys she stole were useless to open her collar which means they were really meant for another purpose. Almost surely to open a door in the Blacksnakes nest where the real final boss will be waiting.
I'm now curious to see what is the final ending that Throne will be reaching in the next chapter. Will she really be free or just end up becoming the new leader of the Blacksnakes?

Throne Chapter 3 - Mother Route
Huge revelations in this chapter about Throne's past, seems like her birth mother was the original leader of the snakes and she was killed by the current "Mother" and "Father" leaders in what apparently is a typical event when succession happens within the organization. "Mother" has big resentment over Throne being the original leader kid because she's jealous of her skill and strength. Plus she's basically same looks as Throne so seriously beautiful compared to the hideous villain.
Now "Mother" has been defeated (boss was easier than previous bosses I fought honestly) and there only remains "Father" to fight against in the second half of the chapter 3. Apparently he tried to protect Throne from "Mother" and forced her not to kill her back when her birth mother died. Why? Is she related in some way to her? That would explain why the attachment.
By the way, Mira vowing revenge was kind of ironic, because it's basically recreating the situation where the new snakes try to kill the old ones, just this time Throne is on the receiving end. I wonder if Throne will ever actually become free from this cycle of hatred.
It's hard for me to care about Mira's thoughts, because "Mother" was so absurdly evil that I would be hard pressed to feel bad for her death.

Hikari Chapter 3 Wellgrove - Arms Deal
Just finished Hikari Chapter 3 and it was quite an experience as everything seems to line up for the final confrontation against Mugen in Ku. Hikari manages to defeat the general of Ku in one-to-one combat and retrieve the weapons they were trying to buy. This should give Kazan's forces enough equipment to begin the final battle to take back the kingdom, especially considering Mugen used lots of his troops to defeat a neighbor country called Sa, but didn't accept to take in any survivors to bolster his forces.
Ritsu was there when the battle between Hikari and the general happened and used the opportunity to betray the general and try to raise up in ranks even more within the kingdom. Mugen didn't believe him of course, but he was amused by how bold he was by trying to use even the death of an ally as a way to gain more power. His past was surely sad as his father was killed without reason by a soldier, but he's now becoming pretty much the same as the people that caused that.
Mugen is definitely going down in the next chapter, but there are many questions that are still unknown. Why does Hikari's bloodline have these absurd tendencies and split personalities? They refer to it as cursed blood, but can such a thing exist?
Will Ritsu survive or become another casualty of the war? I'm leaning on survive and change, but who knows at this point.

Osvald Ch.3 Conning Creek - Revenge continue
Chapter 3 (Conning Creek) continues with Osvald's story and gives us more info on the conspiracy that caused his family to be killed and him being imprisoned in that accursed island. Captain Stenvar helped Harvey to kill Osvald's family, put the fault on Osvald and then steal his research to send it to Montvale. He even killed the husband of Lady Clarissa (the assistant of Osvald) to silence him as he was snooping around.
Clarissa said that revenge brings to nothing, but well...revenge is going to be served one way or another and I'm happy with that. Osvald is not going to stop at anything from the looks of it.
Apparently Montwise is an important city because it's where Osvald and Harvey first met. Osvald seems to suspect that Harvey left the trail for him to find so he knew that the prison wouldn't stop him from coming back, but why? It doesn't make sense to lead the way to someone who want to take revenge on you unless...there's something else...

Temenos Ch.3 Crackridge route - Moonshade order
Completed Temenos Chapter 3 Crackridge route and as expected it all checks out. Everything seem to be centered around two "individuals". The first is the Lord (a "god" I'm assuming) that the moonshade order is revering. The second one is the leader of their group who ordered the attack and destruction of the Kal people to "heed the Lord request".
In order to bring chaos to the world they wanted to get the Book of Night (some magical book needed for a ritual apparently), but few pages were stolen by various individuals which matches the murder that Vados committed. It was all to recover these pages which means now they should be very close to their objective.
Now we need to go and interrogate Vados at Stormheil, but things won't be easy. I'm suspecting the commander of that fortress that we saw briefly in the previous chapter to be the real culrprit and the leader of the Moonshade Order. I want to play the next route of this, but level 37 so I need to take a detour first.

Temenos Ch.3 Crackridge route - Not a good start
Temenos Chapter 3 Crackridge route seems to be focused on some backwater village with extremely suspicious people living in it. They seem to transform into non-welcoming towards him the moment he mentioned wanting to visit the ruin near the village.
Now they seem to be wanting to assault him during the night, quite a welcoming he's getting. Still can't see how are they connected to the Keepers of the flame that caused the murders of the bishop and the others. They seem to mention that Temenos and them worship a different flame, but I don't recall any other flame in the story...maybe a different sect? Or maybe linked to Galdera?
Unrelated note, I'm back at playing now and should be seeing more of these posts in the coming days. Passed the last few days optimizing the site to make it a better experience for everyone visiting. There's still some more work to do, but it's in a good state now.

Ochette Ch.2 Tera Route - Catch them all!
Just finished the Chapter 2 of Ochette's story on the Tera route (it's another of those chapters that are separated into two routes) and seems like the quest of Ochette to try and gather all the legendary beasts is going quite well. The first beast was already dead, but we got the child of it.
Now we managed to get the approval of Tera to give us support once the "Night of the Scarlet Moon" arrives.
Ochette's story so far has been the most traditional when it comes to story developments. She got the revelation of a big bad evil coming and she goes to gather the only entities that can stop him. That's something you must've heard a lot of time and yet with her quirky personality, charming voice and Akala acting as the straight man it comes out as extremely fun to follow.
Next for Ochette will be Chapter 2 Glacis Route, but considering it's suggested level 38 in the world map (I'm still average level 27) I guess I'll do some of the other characters stories in the meantime

Castti Ch.2 Winterbloom - Plukk was an hard boss!
I thought I finished the second chapter in my previous post, but it was a two part which seems common in this new game (there weren't in the first one). I've just done the Winterbloom part of the chapter 2 of Castti too and it gives a lot more info about her past.
Seems like there is a guy named Trousseau that lived Winterbloom that was an apprentice healer and met Castti at the residence where Melia and Rosa lived. This guy is key because he was in the flashback Sai route of the second chapter too.
Could he be the hooded guy who caused the purple rain to fall down on that village? Seems like the third chapter brings us to that village and...I guess the truth.
There's no doubt that Castti is good, but what caused that hooded guy to do that and destroy the reputation of Eir's Apothecaries? Also how did Castti lose her memories? Questions questions...
By the way the boss fight was a Plukk was a pain to win. The henchman when left alone used some supermove that annihilated my party...

Castti Ch.2 - Who was that hooded figure?
Just finished the second chapter of Castti in Octopath Travelers 2 and the mystery only deepens to be honest. The story itself was a standard one for this kind of character, war between two countries and doctors working both sides to save as many lives as possible.
The real interesting part comes from the inquiry you do to two characters to learn more about Castti past as she lost all her memories. Seems like there was a rumor going around that Eir's Apothecaries (the group Castti was part of) being involved into a village destruction through some purple rain.
Castti get a flashback though and it shows her trying to stop a hooded guy who activated this rain. Issue is that this hooded guy calls Castti "leader" and is actually a follower of the same group. Just what's going on with the Eir's Apothecaries? How did Castti lose her memories?

Temenos x Throne Intermission Cathedral
I entered with intermission chapter with light feelings as they were talking about stealing a treasure and you know that the combination between the thief Throne and the priest Temenos is kind of funny.
It ended up being way more plot heavy than I thought. What are they talking about here? Who is this woman sealed in the cathedral by the previous bishop? Why does she think we have a fire in us? Is it related to the overarching story (you know the recurring Galdera thing) or...? I'm quite confused right now as this came out of literally nowhere as a curve ball.
Just how much stuff was the bishop hiding? Before he died he was seemingly involved with so many plots across the different characters...

Intermission event Osvald with Partitio
An intermission event between these two was honestly unexpected. Octopath Traveler II clearly enjoys pairing characters who don’t seem compatible at first glance. Osvald and Partitio operate on completely different wavelengths: Osvald is an inward-focused scholar driven by obsession, theory, and the pursuit of new magic, while Partitio is an optimist whose adventures revolve around business and improving people’s lives.
At face value, it’s hard to imagine Osvald willingly involving himself in Partitio’s ventures. There’s nothing academic about markets or trade, and Osvald doesn’t strike anyone that would meddle with that stuff. But that contrast is exactly what makes the pairing compelling. Osvald’s analytical mindset brings an unexpected element to Partitio’s plans, while Partitio’s "for the people" perspective challenges Osvald’s tendency to detach himself from the world.

Ochette Ch.2 - Jerky as a currency seems nice
Now going through the second chapter of Ochette in Octopath Traveler 2. I nearly forgot how her city needed jerky to even stay at the inn and was used as currency for everything. It doesn't work on the other cities though Ochette!
The goal of Ochette is pretty simple here. She is to find another of the legendary creatures needed to thwart the disaster impending on the world and convince them to join our quest.
Of course this will inevitably lead to some battle though as these creatures will want to test Ochette and so on and so on...
Intermission events mechanic (Agnea/Hikari)
I didn't know Octopath Travelers 2 had special two-way stories in between. Basically it's chapters where two characters interact in more meaningful ways compared to small unvoiced banters we usually see. This is actually nice to develop more the characters backstories.
In this case it was an intermission between Agnea and Hikari revolving around a mysterious singer that seems to be connected to Hikari's home country of Ku.
In the first game they various party members felt like they never really met aside from gameplay reasons due to how detached their chapters were. This works great to fix that issue with the game.

Throne deep voice is quite cool
Yeah, I remember I liked her back when I started Octopath Travelers 2 6-ish months ago, but this kind of confirms it. Throne's voice and mannerism are just way too good, she has that "sensual aura" around her voice that really works together with her character design.
Throne story is also admittedly one of the most interesting with the whole thieves group and the "mother"/"father" elements and the seemingly recurring pattern of a child overcoming the current leaders and becoming the new ones.
Let's see if she can break the cycle.
Octopath Travelers Journal Start
It's time to start again playing Octopath Travelers 2, have been delaying it for so long I nearly forgot at what point of the story I was. The save file says 13 hours so I should be still in the early stages...
I see I've done all the characters first chapter and some of the second chapters too. I remember Throne and Ochette were my favorite characters overall in terms of story, but I was a bit soft on Agnea too because it's hilarious to see her destroying monsters with her kicks. Don't underestimate a dancer!
