ZZZ 3.3 Patch Story - The truth behind Sunbringer. Now the finale!
I finally played through the story of Patch 3.3 of ZZZ, and it's another amazing installment that delves into the mystery of Lady Sunbringer, revealing pretty much everything about her past and present. Honestly, I was expecting them to take their time doling out information, but it seems her backstory is only a small piece of this chapter.
Before getting into that, though, I have to say: if you've followed this blog for a while, you know I mostly play female characters, but after trying Severian in the story trial, I was like, "Damn, he's cool." Wind element, great synergy, and an undeniably cool entrance. I can't see why Cissia would be that scared of him!

I'm more on the fence about Phoenix, though. Don't misunderstand me: I love her look and personality, especially during her more lighthearted moments, but she doesn't feel particularly special compared to the rest of the cast. Sure, she's immortal and all that, but she still feels a bit samey when compared to other characters from Roscaelifer.
The three Sunbringers we know are fragments of the original (each carrying one-third of the core), yet they are completely separate individuals when it comes to their memories and personalities. Lady Sunbringer reveals the truth herself in a dream to Belle, alongside the revelation that they never actually extinguished the Hive Lord Hollow.

It turns out Sunbringer was originally an Enchainer Larva from the Hollow who stole a portion of the Hive Lord's power back then and was nurtured by an outside scientist. She eventually grew to take human form and allied with humanity, bringing the Hollow under her control and compressing it into the Rosetta Stone used for Hollow navigation to this day. Everything was a lie all along.
I'm not sure where we go from here, though, because Sunbringer seemingly knows other secrets about Belle that she decided not to disclose. I kind of hate when characters withhold information in pure Yes, Prime Minister style: "In due course. At the appropriate juncture. In the fullness of time. When the moment is ripe. When the necessary procedures have been completed. Nothing precipitate, of course," while vaguely alluding to mysterious reasons for their silence.

The final boss for the next patch seems to be Truvia. She already has a monstrous design tied to the Etheric Other, so it's easy to see her going berserk, culminating in a climactic boss battle that leads to her "death." I put death in quotes because Youkai has repeatedly talked about her as if she were already dead, which makes me wonder if this is even the real Truvia in the first place.
Oh, and of course, in the next patch we get the playable Sunbringers: the three sisters. Apparently, they function as a three-in-one unit, and I'm excited to see them in action. Hopefully, all three get enough screen time across their combat animations. I know the eldest will likely serve as the primary form on field, but still...
